Lanark To Carluke

Length : 10.9 miles
Duration : 5 hours (we took our time)

A last minute walk down the South Lanarkshire section of the Clyde Walkway. My girlfriend doesn’t really enjoy walking anymore than 10 miles, so this was ideal.

The plan was to get the 10.45 train from Carluke to Lanark but we missed it in order to have rolls and Ramsay lorne sausage. It was worth it. When we finally got the train we tried our best to hide from the train conductor in order to avoid paying the fare. No luck, he took a fiver off me.

Our original plan was to walk down to New Lanark, but we decided to head straight from the train station towards the route. We had a false start at Castlebank Park after we went the wrong way(heading back towards New Lanark rather than walking towards Kirkfieldbank) for a few minutes, but that was correctly fairly quickly. The walk was looking good, and the weather was great. It is an easy walk and mostly flat. Once we reached Crossford we nipped into the Crossford Inn for a well deserved pint. After our pint our pace reduced and we decided to take our time for the remaining section of the walk. From Milton Estate we came off the Clyde Walkway and started walking up Milton Road, past the General Roy Monument, and then down to Jock’s Burn nature trail down past hole 11 and 12 of Carluke Golf club bringing us out at Station Road, Carluke.

Had a quick look at my geocache down at the nature trail to see what the visitors have been saying. Made it to the Kirkton on the way home for a rewarding final pint.

Seen plenty of lamb’s along the way. Phrase of the walk was “Fair dinkum”.
